well it seems everyone i talk too hasnt heard of the band yet (before i talk to them), and i was just wondering two things....
1- exactly how many records have they sold? (i tried checking billboard, but i have no clue how)
2- why i havent heard a single in my local radio station (KROQ 106.7) probably biggest /popular station on southern california, i was wondering, there
signed by a major and yet i haven't heard them once on the radio heh...
well say what you want about the radio, but i listen to it occasionaly... but many times radio can decide a bands fate. either way i hope robot's
doing good .
just had some random thoughts :Ppoobs - 12-5-2003 at 08:53 PM
Well we know that Jed the Fish played them, but I don't know how much air time other than that they've gotten..They did that interview on
KCRW, which is pretty big..As far as numbers, I think there was a thread about that..Drac found out, but I can't remember where it is.. draconian - 12-6-2003 at 08:53 AM
They're a niche act I'm sure for the label, who seem to have a pretty good understanding of Ima Robot's ability to build a fanbase
slowly and steadily without having to resort too much to the mad hype machine. Which is weird, because I have heard from some annoying scenester
types that they have been turned off by the label hype about Ima Robot, and I'm always come back with your observations about radio airplay and
name recognition...
As far as record sales go, they're actually doing pretty well. You can't look at numbers and judge them objectively, though--you have to
compare them to other bands that have been around for approximately the same amount of time and toured a similar amount. I think they're getting
pretty close to the 20,000 milestone, and might pass it on the Raveonettes tour. Last I saw, they were stilling selling the most records where they
had toured, which is understandable.
And don't forget--they made the KROQ Christmas Calendar CD, plus had the aforementioned Jed The Fish and Rodney airings. They had a lot of play
on college radio this fall, as well--which not only exposes people to the music but is also good for getting them to see live shows.
It will be an interesting 2004!Phobiac - 12-6-2003 at 09:40 AM
20,000; that would be huge. Maybe half of that is more realistic?draconian - 12-6-2003 at 09:45 AM
