A Scary Thing Just Happened....(long story)

avw86 - 3-25-2004 at 07:55 PM

We have two kittens, Deuce and Roxie (who are actually closer to being one year old now). We got them not too long after my cat of 8 years, Willie, died last May. We let them go in and out all through the day, and then bring them in after dinner. So it was dark already, and nobody had seen Deuce all day...he didn't even come in for dinner. My mom and her boyfriend, Dan, went outside to look for him. There is a creek behind our house, and my mom had a feeling to look there. By this point, it was really dark and rainy, and we only had a couple of flashlights. My mom kept hearing a meow, but couldn't see where it was coming from. Then they saw Deuce all the way across the other side of the creek, hanging on a rock at the edge of the rushing river. It's a really steep and muddy climb to get down to the river part. The creek wall is about 3 stories tall. We thought that Deuce was gonna fall in the river (which was rushing by so fast at this point). My mom climbed down about halfway, and her boyfriend had to run to this other street and get on the side of the creek Deuce was on by hopping a fence and climbing down that side. It was so dark, muddy, rainy, slippery...:( Finally, Dan managed to grab Deuce. So he had to climb all the way back up the creek carrying Deuce. Then, my mom couldn't climb back up the creek wall because she kept slipping. I had to run to my neighbor's house for help, and she ran with me back to the creek to try and help my mom. At that point, Dan got Deuce in the house, and was able to help my mom up. It was so scary. I thought I was gonna lose my cat again :( And I thought my mom was gonna slip and fall in the river. I'm still shaking :( I didn't know what to do...I'm not the type that acts calm and collected in situations like this...

It's so odd, though, how Deuce managed to get across the creek in the first place. He couldn't have swam across, because the water was rushing too fast and he would've been swept away.

I'm just so relieved and happy that he's o.k. now, and that the worst didn't happen. Maybe our old cat, Willie (who Deuce is the spitting image of, hence his name...like Willie the Second...) is his guardian angel :saint:

Here's a picture of Deuce and Roxie :)

Thanks for the kind words everyone, I feel better now :)

My first pet was a dog named Brownie, but we couldn't keep him when we moved from L.A. to northern CA, so we gave him to my grandma. Then we had various pets like a turtle named Speedy, some salamanders, etc.

When we moved to n. cal, Willie was our neighbor's cat. But he would always come by our house, and eventually our neighbor said that he was ours since he obviously liked us so much, haha ;) :D

He passed away the day before my birthday this year, and that was so hard. They really do become like members of the family.

Now we have Deuce and Roxie, and so I hope they'll stick around for a really long time.
