DUBUQUE!! setlist etc..

imanodoubtaholic - 4-22-2004 at 08:31 PM

oooookayyyy. i decided to drive up to iowa for this one. and i'm SO glad i did. lost prophets weren't on so they had an extra long set. here it is to the best of my recollection, i tried to sit down and write it down after the show so i wouldn't forget.. a couple of them may not be in the right order...
song 1
action
alive
turkey
dirty life
std dance
philosophofee
dynomite
the beat goes on (AHHHH)
scream
black jettas
12=3
bombs
.........
the ENERGY of this show was even MORE crazier than the el rey footage i've seen. NO JOKE. my dad unfortunately could not sneak in the video camera, but i did get pics. they're not developed yet.. i'll have them on sunday (phobiac or draconion i'll send them to you when i get them)
i have the most horrific bruise on my arm from being smashed into the barriers, it looks like my upper arm is about to rot like a tomato. but it was WELL worth it. i got to do the meet and greet thing beforehand, oliver wasn't there, not sure why. but alex recognized me from last week, and i brought these posters i got on ebay for them to sign. they really liked them. on the .com site they have the last 2 pics of the minnesota dates listed wrong, they're from the iowa date, and that's my dorklike self with the poster.
the whole band went OFF. alex hopping onto anything he can see. the crowd was so like... eager i guess for something.. the energy was psychotic. there was a huge difference between this show and last week's.. as far as energy. and the longer set was heavenly. i about pissed my pants when they played the beat goes on.
i'm going to add to this later when i can reform my thoughts properly. but yeah, CRAZY awesome show.

Nice..I'm glad they got a good response this time!! I had one of those bruises from the El Rey show, too..It's worth the pain..Glad you had fun!! :D

happysmilely - 4-22-2004 at 09:19 PM

yes, yes. they are super good live.
glad you got some pic's.
yeah I tend to get some nice bruise at concerts
but I'm used to it all by now.
glad you had fun.

imanodoubtaholic - 4-22-2004 at 09:30 PM

yeah.. the response was definetely up there in 'great' territory. alex started going off on a little tangent at one point talking to the crowd saying they were "like a diamond in a desert of touring".. etc. i thought it was funny. a lot of "you guys are fucking amazing!.. you just came out of nowhere!" from ALL of the guys. including tim.. and it seems like tim doesnt usually talk..
in the beginning of philosphofee "if you can find your pretty way back home" alex came and sought me out for that line... like it was this cute little inside joke since i drove 5 hours to see them. lots of great moments like that - that i will keep and cherish.
:D:D:D

happysmilely - 4-22-2004 at 09:35 PM

yeah, good stuff. I love it when they do that stuff.
They play the crowd very well and if your a big fan they show lots of apprecation to you.
man I miss my BOT!
July it to far right poobs

imanodoubtaholic - 4-22-2004 at 09:42 PM

yeah they all went apeshit over my posters. it was odd. i look so STUPID and goofy in tim's pic..
blECH.
i'm sad though. this is the last time i get to see them for awhile. i'm 1000% addicted to them.. especially in live form. why are they SO good live? i guess when you couple alex's stage presence with the frenetic energy of the music it's enough to send anyone over the top.
if they take the same merch roadie with them on the road for the next legs of the tour, his name is scott. someone tell him desiree says hi.
:P
i think we liked each other.

i wish i could have ebert.

imanodoubtaholic - 4-22-2004 at 10:11 PM

so i actually said what i meant for once?
thanks!

imanodoubtaholic - 4-22-2004 at 10:17 PM

another thing...
i was NOT staying on the floor for H****stank, so what i normally do is just turn around and walk out of the crowd.
it was NOT happening. i had to get out by climbing over the barrier, or should i say being pulled out by the security people who so kindly helped me out. i mean, you could not move. it kind of sucked. i couldn't dance, or spaz.

brokenbones33 - 4-24-2004 at 08:23 PM

yeah... i dont even really get why they're touring with H****stank... are they just trying to get more well-known? or... ah? MAN i knew i should have gone to that show.. i bet they wont be around here for a lonnnnng time, what was the best part about the show??

imanodoubtaholic - 4-24-2004 at 09:18 PM

there were too many best parts to name. alex jumping down off the stage in front of the barriers and running around with his eyes closed on std dance singing "show me your love" was great.

brokenbones33 - 4-25-2004 at 04:43 PM

thats awesome.. you said you took pictures right?

imanodoubtaholic - 4-25-2004 at 09:55 PM

oh yeah - i get them tomorrow, and i'm sending them to drac or phobes so they can go in the gallery, you'll see em, don't worry! :D half the fun of taking pictures is so you can share them!

draconian - 4-26-2004 at 04:47 AM

Thanks for getting those! You can send them to phobiac@imarobot.net.

Imater9 - 4-29-2004 at 07:04 AM

Did you get to see them after the concert? I did. They were all really nice. I had never really listened to them until that concert, but I listen to them all the time now!

back to the topic while i'm here, i sent phobiac my pics.. the really awesome shots in red they didnt put on cd when i got them developed for some reason. i think it's because i didnt use flash, but whatever. they won't come out when i scan them, but i'm hoping i can somehow still get them up. they're so good. maybe i can send them to some one snail mail who has a scanner that works??
here's a link to the ones that i do have until phobiac gets them up.

MichelleRene - 5-14-2004 at 07:49 AM

 it works..I can see them...they turned out great! I love #4 with you (?) and the boys...very nice! You look so happy to be there.....

Ok...so is thier European tour over for now? Maybe after they rest a bit...they can swing back to the East coast......why not next weekend at the 99.1 HFStival in DC! The Cure is playing and I'm heart broken! I want to go! Ima could play on the main stage or one of the side stages.....Beck played there back in like 96 or 96. Come on guys...your playing all these other festivals....play the HFS-tival!

RoboticTerrorSTD - 5-14-2004 at 10:42 AM

awesome photos, you DO look very happy, of course why wouldn't you be :D

imanodoubtaholic - 5-14-2004 at 09:33 PM

i get REALLY giggly around alex. for obvious reasons. i keep having really strange dreams about him.... ok nevermind
but yeah.. i was standing kind of off to the side waiting for them to get through that line of people so i could take pics. and they were playing the album so i was singing along. and this one moment i was singing along to scream "you were the best love.." and i glance over their direction, as i often did.. and alex is staring at me and giving me this "your are so cute" look and then gives me this flirty little wink. i melted on the spot.
did i mention my dad had the video camera out for a lot of the meet and greet stuff? i think it wigged a lot of the band out. i watched it.. there's one moment where alex looks over at the camera and looks away like.. "oh shit he's filming me".. it's really funny. but i had to do something to keep my dad occupied or he would've done something stupid. it's cute to have on tape though.
i can't wait to see them again. i've had the best show/concert experiences with them.
