Blazinvibes: 7 of 10

This one from blazinvibes.com contains the tantalizing tidbit that Tim used to be in a band called "Frappe." Can anyone remember the wack name of Alex's old hip hop band when he was like 10?

IMA ROBOT - IMA ROBOT (VIRGIN)

.

Ima Robot are four guys with a well seasoned music history. From Beck we have Justin Meldal-Johnson (bass, background vocals, programming) and Joey Waronker (drums, percussion, programming, and background vocals), Tim Anderson (guitar, programming, and background vocals) the founder of the group who was once in band Frappe. Joining them are Alex Ebert (vocals) and Oliver Goldstein (keyboards, guitar, programming and percussion).

Their sound can be described as a mix of punk, indie rock that at times has a slight electronic element. The album is very different and it is essential to play it more than once. Initially the album for me was a little tricky to digest; but this is certainly not a bad thing! Ima Robot have created an album that will be loved by most, whatever genre of music they are into.

It’s easy to see that they are different, intelligent and passionate. They are not manufactured and rely upon massive basslines and infectious rhythms. From the album it is clear that the tracks Dynomite and Alive are the basis of their sound and are the ones that will be chart hits.

On a personal note I just love Scream! I can’t stop playing it; hmm it certainly does stick in your head.

I am a fan, yes it can seem a bit in ya face, but its real and yes they will go far. Virgin obviously can see their potential.

The album is released on the 19/04 and I would recommend you buy it. You will be bowled over by its intensity, yet simplistic reliance on bass and catchy lyrics.

" Ebert's been making something out of it since the age of seven, when he wrote a song called ''Freeze Motherfucker'' for his kiddie gangsta-rap crew, Ka-Bang. "
