Like a velvet glove cast in iron

...I was first turned onto comics, beyond superheroes, in college one night after reading most of a friends collection of Optic Nerve....
Sometime a year ago my roomate unfurled a collection of some of the most invigoratingly disturbing and mesmerising adult comics I had ever seen...Charles Burns...skin deep, crack defective and maybe closer to (sur)reality... Daniel Clowes, Like a velvet glove cast in iron...as some descriptions have been right on the money...this makes Twin Peaks seem like Mr. Rogers or Captain Kangaroo...totally amazing portraits of what is really out there (>?<;)...seemingly pseudo autobiographical of some of Clowes exploits, the stories and pictures are totally surreal, yet very real...:o:wow::cool: ...very lasting imagery that at times disturb to the point of being commonplace...
my weekend couldn't of been more wackier, ok maybe if I had a conversation with a barracuda in a diner, it may have been, but saturday I found myself in a comic shop within walking distance and was compelled to pick up a volume of short story comics called Charicature...I flipped thru the pages ...saw a few very rediculous panels and all else in the store may as well have been cookbooks...
when I got home, the first story I flipped to had none other than a main character who...much to my magic 8 ball surprise, shared a same name as yrs truly... so f'n crazy... if you have never seen this stuff and are in the mood for something beyond the left field wall and near the corner of the parking lot...look no further...for now...
I still can't believe what I just read...

:wow: you've inspired me to go to the comic bookstore tomorrow

I also realised in the process that comics shops are akin to porn shops... rather hardcore at times and people are in there fullfilling something (?) or other... the selections seem to be up to date or hot sellers... I actually recommend a big ass bookstore for better selection, but yeah, the experience in one of these places is almost a foreplay for what you are about to read....
Clowes' Ghost World is his most notable that saw the light of day as the flick, but is PG-13 at best...this other stuff is... to be found out for yourself...f' pychic advisors, my queries into the void were mysteriously quelled by this compilation... yeah... check it out.... :wow::lol::lol::lol::cool:

couldn't resist...after what I read this weekend...found a copy of 'David Boring'...by Clowes, who's character is truly rather excitable...by women and has a string of moments, both real and visualized... I made it as far as act two and realized I was trying to read while at stop lights...hard to put down...and this one is recent (2000)... pretty weird, totally perverse...perfect for .netters :lol::lol:
