Who influenced you musically?

Seb - 6-1-2004 at 07:02 PM

I am bored so I though that I would make a thread about your musical influences. How did you start listening to the type of music you like. Parents? Friends? Just started on your own? Who influenced you musically?

For me it’s my dad. When most kids had “normal” parents that played them stimulating classical music as well as baby music my dad had Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Elvis Costello, DOA, The Buzzcocks, Television, Talking Heads… records blasting 24/7. If it weren’t for him I would probably be listening to a lot of crappy bands.

Well I think it started WAY back with my hippie parents
Raise on Beatles, the Momma’s and the Papa’s and many more greats
Then add, pink Floyd, the who and more.
Top that with LOTS of classical, and musicals and so on

Right away I feel in love with music
I started making music before I really got into bands.
I was into just about every kind of music that came my way.
Music = good (as long as it was good)

When I started getting older,.
Starting bands:
Beatles
Nirvana
Radiohead (not as much as I like them now)
Greenday (I WAS LIKE 8 OK!!!!)

Then in middle school I was into the same music, plus angst punk rock bands
In high school I calmed my pukness a bit…

Then I just went on my own, looking into all the music I could… I’m open to all kinds of music, just depends if it’s good or band… I guess
So did I do this right?
I’ll say Mom and dad started my off with my Beatle roots, on to my search for everything. My brothers wise lead to better music, and me taking off to be the super start I am no ;) hahhahhaha!!!

ok well I tryed :D

AW Dyler! My little brother LOVEs the X-Ray Spex and I adore them. He wants me to teach him all the saxaphone parts, I'm getting there  .....I'm trying to learn it by ear :duh: who am i kidding? it's going to take me forever, since I can't find the damn notation anywhere

Oh well, getting back on the subject. My parents influenced me alot kinda the way your dad did Seb. Both of my parents played lots of music all the time, my mom usually played Berlin, Blondie, The Cure, Bob Marley or Led Zeppelin:lol:. I remember my dad playing a whole lot of Depeche Mode (Depeche Mode is one of my favorites) Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, New Order, AC/DC, E.L.O (also one of my favorites, Jeff Lyne is the man, my dad taught me well) The Eagles, The Steve Miller Band, Duran Duran.........you get it..... lots of various music.:)

Mom raised me on The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell... etc.
My sisters got me into Weezer, Pink Floyd, and random stuff like that.
Wezer was my first love. They introduced me to bands like The Pixies and Pavement.

I read of Ima Robot in Spin a few times, then when a friend said to listen to them, I was very obliged to get into something new.
