SF Warped tour synopsis

theipodgod16 - 7-3-2004 at 06:02 PM

Ima robot was scheduled to play at the sf warped tour today, so i bought my ticket a few months ago.I had a dance class today until 1130, and i didn't know what time bot was playing! i was afriad that i would miss them play and be stuck in a world of emo and punk that i don't like. They ended up playing around 3, so I had plenty of time to check out the other bands around. The sounds played an hour before the bot, and they were real fun.

I met up with kendra and her sister up front of the show, and couldn't help but be offended when the bouncers up front were rolling their eyes at each other during the set.

Alex came out shirtless, with a red circle in the middle of his chest, and black slacks pulled up at the thigh. He had white eyeliner on, with some white eyeliner around his mouth, which he playfully pretended to flick into the crowd at the start of the show.

My stepdad had never seen ima robot play live, but is a big fan, and has been looking forward to it for months. He was very impressed, even though it was an outdoor venue, alex's mike wasnt turned up high enough (again!! same as at slims!!), and they only played 7 songs. Setlist was: Song 1, alive, std dance, dynomite, black jettas, 12=3, and here come the bombs. I was unrealistically hoping for them to play 10:10, bitch for you, sine your life away, or ages of ruin, but it wasnt the right venue and it really wasnt the right crowd. I talked to Justin, Timmy, and Ollie before the show, and they said they have been writing/recording a lot over the break and are going to be working on a new album!!!!:o

All in all, a good show. I hope they try out some new stuff on us during the next trip to SF!!

Short but sweet. Thanks for the report. Look forward to Poobs', as well!

when i was talking to ollie, he had a cigarette in his ear, timmy was smoking one, and alex's girlfriend was smoking during the show. Does anyone know if scotty alex or justin smoke? i know it's hard to live with someone who does when you don't, so i imagine it must bug them to have half the band smoke and half not. Anyone know?

lurker - 7-3-2004 at 07:44 PM

Actually, i think Alex doesn't smoke, being a health nut and all, but i may be wrong...
im wondering how you managed to catch Alex and the crew before the show? Do they hang out at the merch table or what? ....Also, were there a lot of people at the Ima show/stage?

That sounds like a good show. The downside to Warped(other than Avril clones, Emo kids, etc...) is that the sets are at the most half an hour long.

Oi..I'm so sunburned..That's about all I have to say about it..:( Ha! No..I camped out in the front for some lame bands and one not so lame..Juliette and the Licks really impressed me! She's too damn cute anyways, but she really holds her own up there..I dug them..

Anywho, the set was so short, but it was just good seeing them perform again..(Chris, my sister wasn't in front with me..You met her after.. :D ) Umm..It's just a strange venue and mood and time for them to play, but they carried it off..Afterwards, they were signing stuff at their booth and they all gave me a hug and stuff..I finally introduced myself to Scott, who I haven't really talked to yet..He's just as lovely as the rest of the boys..Anywho, Brody finally got to meet them and they all signed his Angels hat..They were so damn nice to him..Then Justin kept saying how cool it was that Brody was there and gave him an initialed pick and a sweat band..:D

I know it's not much of a review, but I'm freaking burned, bruised, and tired as hell..

poobs - 7-3-2004 at 09:25 PM

Forgot to mention in that detailed review that I picked up the Alive EP..It was $10 so I only got the one..I'z beez a poor son of a biatch..Anywho, in STD Dance, "give a fuck attitude" has the word fuck slurred out..Same with "I'LL BE A GODDAM MOTHER FUCKER" in Ages of Ruin..It comes out more like "I'LL BE A GODDAM MOTHER FUUUER"..:lol: Oh! And I picked up that pink polo that I wanted!!! :D

poobs - 7-3-2004 at 09:26 PM

Oh..And TONS of free crap! They had this thing where if you brought bottles to them, you got free stuff..So Casey and Brody went nuts and got everything they offered!! I have a sweet-ass Anchorman tee-shirt..:lol:

lurker - 7-3-2004 at 09:36 PM

Damn, how much was the polo??? I want one!!!

ps: wasnt the sf date after the san diego date?

poobs - 7-3-2004 at 09:36 PM

Crap..One more thing..We got out of there early enough for King Foot Subs..:duh:

I knew i remembered her face from somewhere! The singer is Juliette Lewis, the actress. Crazy, she married Steve Berra who is also an actor and a pro skateboarder.
wow...

i didnt get to talk to alex or scotty, but i did get to talk to everyone else, by the side of the stage before the set. After they played, i saw bad religion, and then just crashed out from 7pm till about 9 this morning. it was such a sensory overload, plus i'm sick so it was just too much.

poobs - 7-4-2004 at 03:02 PM

Yeah..Juliette..She was really good..And flexible! :o

Dude..There must have been something in the San Fran air..We had to rush Brody to the emergency room last night cuz of stomach pains he was having..Damn San Fran..:ticking: He's perfectly fine, by the way..:D

What kind of dance do you do? I tap dance. Not really, but I do. That's a metaphor...but it actually happened.

theipodgod16 - 7-5-2004 at 12:15 AM

ballet. i dance in the san francisco ballet school.

MichelleRene - 7-5-2004 at 04:49 AM

:wow: sounds like you all had a great time, except for the sun and tummy aches. I would have loved to have been there.......and Juliette Lewis has a band, how funny. I would have loved to have seen that.

Wow. That's impressive. I have no talent. Except for quoting weird 80s movies...yet no one seems to care.

WarholDisciple - 7-5-2004 at 07:05 PM

The bouncers at the Dallas show kept rolling their eyes as well.. especially when Alex knocked over the mic stand. They were pretty lame. I tried to meet them but I could never find them, backstage or not.. they were nowhere. I talked to the merch girl quite a bit though. She's pretty cool.

Juno: Weird 80s movies kick ass! And I love your avatar.

avw86 - 7-5-2004 at 11:15 PM

I missed it :(

poobs - 7-6-2004 at 07:03 AM

We shall all meet again at the next show! :)

I had no ride and absolutely no money to make it to this. I'm feigning! I need an Ima Robot fix, stat!
