just wondered what people like on TV, comedy wise.
My faves are The Office, Bo Selecta and I'm Alan Partridge.
There's a few others that i like, which you may not have heard of such as, Peep Show, Operation Good Guys, Armando Iannucci Shows, 15 Storeys
High, Nighty Night & Catterick.
I also like the classics Men Behaving Badly and Dads Army.
As you can see I am as passionate about my TV comedy as I am about ImaR, so i wanted to have a chat about it!
What comedies do you like on TV? Any new ones to look out for in the States? What shows do you get over there from the UK?poobs - 7-19-2004 at 07:08 AM
I love Arrested Development..It's odd cuz I guess the ratings aren't very high, but the critics love it..I hope they don't cancel
it..It's one of the funniest shows I've ever seen..
Reno 911 is great, too..Umm..That's about all I can think of this early in the morning..poobs - 7-19-2004 at 07:45 AM
And from what I've seen of that Bo Selecta, I think you have to be English to appreciate the humor..We tend to have different senses of humor,
donchachink? :duh:MichelleRene - 7-19-2004 at 09:22 AM

"ah, my favorite part of the show....elimanation, for these bitches" - andy dickseacaptain - 7-19-2004 at 08:59 PM
Why is it so unbelievable? Gilmore Girls is a funny show!
Do people think it's like Dawson's Creek or something?
TheRandonOne - 7-19-2004 at 09:02 PM
yea, i figured its exactly like that......seems like an emotional "girly" type of show. if im wrong, please do correct kind sir.seacaptain - 7-19-2004 at 09:38 PM
It couldn't be less like Dawson's Creek!
It's not really girly, except in that the main characters are girls. I dunno, it's just a really witty and happy and funny show.
The characters are pretty realistic. The show is character-driven, not situation-driven like Dawson's Creek or 90210. That's my favorite
thing about it, besides the humor.
It also always drops lots of music and literature refs, which I like. Cool stuff too, like Nick Drake and Kraftwerk and there was even once some
dialogue about Beck being cool. poobs - 7-19-2004 at 10:57 PM
Talking about Beck does not make a show cool..It just makes the writers smart..:D I've watched it and I can't stand it..It's almost too
"witty" for me..It's just not my thing..
Mad TV did a skit about it that made me laugh..:D
Oh dude..The Assistant is cracking me up..I love Andy Dick anyways..And yes! Family Guy! Every night at 11 on Cartoon Network..Doesn't anyone
agree with me on Reno 911?? Holy crap..That show is awesome..
Oh! And Absolutely Fabulous..I have the DVDs of it, but I have to get this last season..I think they only play it on the Oxygen channel or something
now though..Damn Comedy Central for not playing it anymore..:olomax - 7-20-2004 at 01:11 AM

the early Coupling episodes are quites good, and The Office is brilliant!
BO Selecta is probably the most far off American humour you can get!!
Do you have American Coupling or The Office yet?
I forgot to say I also like Fraiser & Will & Grace!seacaptain - 7-20-2004 at 06:12 AM
The Beck ref is HARDLY the reason I watch the show. The music refs are just a bonus.
Smart writing is basically all I look for in movies or tv, and all the shows I mentioned have the best writing, imo.
We had American Coupling, but I think it tanked after about 3 episodes. Something like that. The American Office isn't on yet.MichelleRene - 7-20-2004 at 06:46 AM

I'm sorry Captain, I've never even seen the show, I just thought it sounded funny and would be lik 90210 or something.....are the girls on
there hot or something? Is that the REAL reason you watch Gilmore Girls?lomax - 7-20-2004 at 06:54 AM

BLIMEY! thats quite popular over here (the uk version) they call it the 'english Friends'poobs - 7-20-2004 at 07:15 AM
They tried to make it all daring and sexual and it just didn't work over here..Besides, there can never be another Friends..That show was
great..:D
Yeah..Will and Grace is great, too..And South Park..Man..I'm babbling..
Cap'n, I just don't see the show as having smart writing..I always felt they were trying too hard..I guess it just isn't my style..The
mom bugs the Hell out of me, too..She was ok in Bad Santa, but I hate her mouth..MichelleRene - 7-20-2004 at 07:24 AM
who plays the Mom?:duh:poobs - 7-20-2004 at 07:59 AM
Some lame actress..:duh:TurtleEnterprises - 7-20-2004 at 08:32 AM
I seen Rory Gilmore at the white stripes concert poobs - 7-20-2004 at 09:58 AM
Who's Rory Gilmore? The sassy mom or the clever daughter? :duh:
Sorry Cap'n..I won't pick on the show anymore..:PNeuwave - 7-20-2004 at 10:56 AM

Hey you guys leave Seacaptain alone! Captain? Did I tell you when I did that
ER @ Warner Bros going back to car afterwards I walked right through the little make shift townsquare for Gilmore Girls. Apparently, that show is one
of the studios biggest hits. I've watched it once, but haven't got into it yet. I usually get into shows long after their popularity
during syndication.
Forgot to mention "Still Standing" on CBS Monday nights with the guy from Full Monty, and the chick from Square Pegs, and
Less Than Zero. That's a funny show.seacaptain - 7-20-2004 at 12:20 PM
Cool! Is that the same time you saw Maura Tierney? Did you see the Celebrity Poker show when Maura Tierney beat out the mom from Gilmore Girls in
the finals? I didn't know who to root for!
What I said about it being character-driven and not situation-driven is the key for me. A lot of "bad" shows are situation-driven. Brenda
goes to France! Steve is in a volleyball tournament! Now Steve is in a rowing race! Kelly is joining a cult! Brandon grows his sideburns!!
That's a bad way to write a show, it's a cheesy way to create drama. And this is from someone who grew up on 90210.
My brother has tried to watch Gilmore Girls, but he hasn't gotten into it much either. So I know it's not for everyone, but what comedy is?Neuwave - 7-20-2004 at 02:11 PM

I totally missed that one. That would've been good.
You've totally peeked my curiosity now. What days is it on? I'm going to start checking it out.seacaptain - 7-20-2004 at 02:50 PM
It's on Bravo, new episodes are Thursdays at 9pm, I think. But it's re-run throughout the week.
They have 5 tables of 5 celebrities play poker, and then one final game with all the winners. Maura Tierney won! It was funny because Dave Foley is
the host... he kept referring to Newsradio. Neuwave - 8-27-2005 at 08:29 PM
Internet: the only place where you can continue a conversation a year later. :D
Shhh...Seacap? I'm gonna work background for GG on Monday. If I had your number, I'd call ya from the set. Send me your number here if
you can before Sunday night.seacaptain - 8-27-2005 at 08:38 PM
