College!

avw86 - 8-24-2004 at 02:20 PM

I haven't really posted much lately, as I was busy getting ready to go to college. I moved into the dorms on Saturday (too bad, because I really wanted to go to the Sunset Junction!). I finally got my computer up and running. :D

In about an hour, I'm meeting with my advisor so that I can pick my classes and register. I start classes on Thursday. :o

Anyone else start college this year?

By the way, I'm now at the University of San Francisco and majoring in Media Studies!

Seb - 8-24-2004 at 03:42 PM

Over the next year I am taking a few calsses to upgrade my highschool(I should have payed attention to classes other than film). Then next fall I will be taking film at Simon Faser school of contemporary arts(The best film school in western Canada)

EvilMotivator - 8-24-2004 at 03:48 PM

I'm starting junior college. I'm scared. My classes start on Monday.

JunoRedneck - 8-24-2004 at 03:58 PM

Don't complain Evil. I have three AP classes this year... in a row! And Geometry then Chemistry first thing in the morning. It blows. But my Chemistry teacher was in Riding Giants. So she literally rides giants. Good times.

happysmilely - 8-24-2004 at 04:17 PM

I'm starting on the 31st.
can't wait!
I love to learn, hate the people I learn with.
I'm doing some basics at a city college
then I'm going to transfer to UCSD
major= Visual arts-media

seems most of us like media

Seb - 8-24-2004 at 04:22 PM

Are any of you media students going to be going into film(unless it is film. Here media arts and film are 2 totally different things)

happysmilely - 8-24-2004 at 04:26 PM

No I'm more for Photography...
but Media arts is a bit of computer arts, and mainly film and photography...
but most of them you pick one of the 3 that you'll do most
mine is photography.
I want to be a photographer badly
did I help?

here, the smart people say it better

Visual Arts (Media) B.A. Major at UCSD

With a visual arts foundation, the program is designed for students who want to become creative videomakers, filmmakers, photographers and computer artists, encouraging the hybridity of media. The curriculum combines hands-on experience of making artwith practical and theoretical criticism, provides historical, social and aesthetic backgrounds for the understanding of modern media, and emphasizes creativity, versatility and intelligence over technical specializations. It should allow students to go on to more specialized graduate programs in the media arts, to seek careers in film, television, computing or photography, or to develop as independent artists.

I have just done my first year at college and come out with an e in philosophy, which is a minimal pass, and 2 u's for photography and art. (u is ungraded, cos it was bollocks) i was pretty pissed off!! everything is structured really differently in the uk tho, we don't live in at college. i guess college in the US is pretty similar to university in the UK.

In the US you don't have to live at college. A lot do, at the univeristys, but it's not needed, just a lot cheaper.

Where in Vancouver?
I live in suburbia. Port moody, right at the base of SFU.

Are you doing the major program? What kind of portfolio do you have?

I was going to go strait to the film major program but I dont have much in my portfolio(just my photography stuff and one short film I work on) so I am going into general arts and taking as many film classes as I can then transfer into it in second year.

I hear its hard to get into the film program in first year(they only take 40 students, which drops to ~20 in second year).

bananaboat - 9-4-2004 at 10:34 AM

I lived in the East side of Vancouver. You know the ghetto side, hahaha, but yea that's so cool you live in B.C. too. :D:lol: I miss the beaches.

Seb - 9-4-2004 at 11:40 AM

I also use to live in East Van, haha.

happysmilely - 9-4-2004 at 12:43 PM

YEAH back in school!!!
I like school I do
learning is fun
:D

EvilMotivator - 9-4-2004 at 12:55 PM

Oh man, I don't like school. I'm already sick of it and I've only been there a week. Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do...

bananaboat - 9-4-2004 at 04:20 PM

Wow!! No way!!

Seb - 9-4-2004 at 05:44 PM

haha, wild. where in east van did you live?

bananaboat - 9-6-2004 at 09:55 AM

Hmm...I moved around a lot. But I lived near Sir Sandford Fleming Elementary, and then I lived near John Oliver Highschool (the school next to the graveyard), and then 28th Ave, where I went to Windermere Highschool.
Hastings street is scary. When I went back to visit and my dad drove through it, me and my friend tried to point out the druggies and hookers, and we code named them red alerts, because we didn't want someone to overhear us.
Yea so what about you?

avw86 - 9-13-2004 at 04:16 PM

I hate the internet connection at school! I can't connect to Soulseek, and I can't send or receive music or picture files on aim or through e-mail!:no::(

Seb - 9-13-2004 at 04:22 PM

I use to live near 22 street by the purdys chocolate factory, really close to the 22 street skytain station.
