Seb - 11-12-2004 at 01:35 PM

I am bored so I thought I would dedicate a thread to movies. Recommend and discuss them here.
Ill start.

Cidade De Deus(City of God) is a brazillian film that is increadible, one of my favorite foreign films. I recommend everyone here to see it. Its about a boy that grows up in a poor housing project in Rio de Jinero. It is based on the book Cidade De Deus.

bananaboat - 11-12-2004 at 01:50 PM

I like the movie "Three Seasons" and "The Scent of Green Papaya." They make me think about my roots.
Amelie is a very good movie too, and that's all I will say of foreign movies.

I think the best comedies would be Dodgeball and Superstar.

JunoRedneck - 11-12-2004 at 02:52 PM

"Disco Pigs"!! And "A Life Less Ordinary". I love Danny Boyle. Oh, and "Lost Boys"!:D

poobs - 11-12-2004 at 03:04 PM

Oh shit..I was at my buddy's house the other day and we got onto the subject of Santa Cruz, which obviously led to discussion of The Lost Boys..He said that if you live in Santa Cruz, you probably have a copy of that movie..I remember either you or Evil saying pretty much the same thing..:lol: Ahhh..More Stereotypes.. ;) What was the name of the city in the movie? We couldn't remember..

seacaptain - 11-12-2004 at 03:42 PM

Can't Buy Me Love = greatest film ever made

TurtleEnterprises - 11-13-2004 at 08:55 AM

Jette - 11-13-2004 at 02:54 PM

lock stock and two smokin barrels is the best movie there is.
1) because of vinnie jones saying 'chop chop' (also very great is 'bonjour' in snatch), 2) for the devine appereance of jason statham, 3) for the amazing storyline, its made up by a genius!

Jette - 11-13-2004 at 02:54 PM

oh and im supposed to go and see der untergang tomorrow, im very much looking forward to it, i bet it is great

Seb - 11-13-2004 at 06:33 PM

Lock stock and two smokin barrels is an awesome movie, as well as snatch.

Has anyone see Darkdays? its a documentary about the people living under new york. I havent seen it, it is impossible to find here.

ps
I heard der untergang is supposed to be really good

Evangeline - 11-14-2004 at 12:31 PM

I love Fight Club, High fidelity, Empire Records, donnie darko, and the nightmare before christmas, among others.

poobs - 11-14-2004 at 02:55 PM

I must say that Christopher Guest's movies make me pee myself all the time..I honestly can't choose between Waiting For Guffman, Best In Show, or A Mighty Wind..

I also love Wes Anderson's movies Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums as well..

Wow..What a boring post..

Seb - 11-14-2004 at 03:16 PM

Bottle rocket is another awesome wes anderson film. Spinal Tap is one of my favorite Christopher guest films, best in show is a close second.

poobs - 11-14-2004 at 03:36 PM

Ahh..Of course..Spinal Tap..For some reason, I forgot he did that one..I guess cuz he didn't direct it like he did with the others..

poobs - 11-14-2004 at 03:39 PM

Ooff..I almost put myself to sleep with that post..:lol::lol:

JunoRedneck - 11-14-2004 at 03:47 PM

I love Wes Anderson!! I can't wait for his new one, Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. And who could not love Waiting for Guffman?
"You're bastard people!"

poobs - 11-14-2004 at 03:53 PM

"I'm gonna..I'm gonna bite my pillow!!"

Thought of a few more.. "High Anxiety", "The Jerk", and "Top Secret" (thanks for reminding me, Cap'n!)

Man..There are so many more..I think I'm just gonna stop here though..:duh:

It wasn't your bad..It was still a Christopher Guest movie!

bananaboat - 11-14-2004 at 05:01 PM

Any movie with Brad Pitt playing. :D

minimandy14 - 11-14-2004 at 06:54 PM

Willy Wonka, The Wizard of OZ, Empire Records (thanks Evangeline), The Neverending story, and of course the ORIGINAL Planet of the Apes :D

JunoRedneck - 11-14-2004 at 07:01 PM

I LOVE The Neverending Story! It reminds me of my childhood. Same with Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. I watched those movies SO many times as a kid. And the Indian Jones movies! I was so obsessed with those. Oh, and Star Wars!! I had so many Star Wars toys and costumes. Wow, it doesn't really sound like I grew up in the 90s, does it? Good memories nevertheless.

minimandy14 - 11-14-2004 at 07:03 PM

DUDE! I COMPLEATLY forgot Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal AND all of the OLD star wars movies. . . . . . . . doesnt sound like i grew up in the ninties either.

JunoRedneck - 11-14-2004 at 07:05 PM

I think it's because the 90s were boring. We had to revert back to the classics.

minimandy14 - 11-14-2004 at 07:06 PM

Oh yea. . . . they did have crap movies, PFF like . . . .Titanic, Pff what kinda movie was that?

TurtleEnterprises - 11-14-2004 at 08:48 PM

I am a deprived child, I haven't seen any of these movies you guys are naming.

minimandy14 - 11-14-2004 at 08:56 PM

:o:o jeez even i knew some of them. . . . .like the AMERICAN ones. . . . but . . . . not even the nightmare before christmas?

7cut - 11-15-2004 at 05:33 AM

some like it hot. all the naked gun movies. wayné s world one and two. dumb and dumber. most harmony korine stuff, sofia coppola and spike jonze stuff. la boum one and two. cinderella `87. a lot of Czech fairy tale movies and series including die märchenbraut and drei nüsse für aschenbrödel. all sorts of movies from the non-colour or early-colour period that are on historic events such as the Romans, the Greek mythology, Cleopatra etc. harold & maude, oh, and silly Chevy Chase comedies as well as everything from Monty Python. and so so so much more i probably forgot.

Jette - 11-15-2004 at 12:01 PM

well apparently at http://cinecartaz.publico.pt/upload/20039/g_Elephant.jpg

bananaboat - 11-15-2004 at 12:10 PM

Yea I want to see Elephant too. I think I'll go see it anyways despite what people say. When I went to see Titanic with my friends, all my friends loved it, but I hated it. Another time this guy said that Labrynth sucks, and when I saw it I loved it so much. People have different preferences.

Evangeline - 11-15-2004 at 12:14 PM

Elephant does indeed suck. The plot is boring, the acting is completely horrible, and the movie is just plain bad. No worth seeing

minimandy14 - 11-15-2004 at 02:53 PM

never seen it, i've never even heard of it . . . . .

Jette - 11-16-2004 at 03:06 AM

its about students going loco after playing video games and shooting fellow students

i bught mean machine for E3 yestrday :D vinnie jones AND jason statham again :D oooooh

7cut - 11-16-2004 at 04:54 AM

Elephant is based on the Columbine incident right ? by Gus Van Saint ....i read a few good reviews, some people even praised the movie. i want to see it nevertheless. i wanted to see "spun" but have been told it´s a horrible movie with a senseless ending.

btw. does anyone here understand "Mulholland Drive" and can explain what the fuck happened to those two women ?! and what lights got to do with the film and its plot ?

oh, and i like the "inspector clouseau" movies..

Jette - 11-16-2004 at 07:44 AM

oh no! i forgot to tape mulholland drive! .. or its on thís week. i cannot keep up

warn me before anyonbe answers 7cuts question, before i accidentally read the ending :P

bananaboat - 11-16-2004 at 09:27 AM

Mulholland Drive? I think I watched that. Let's see...
Oh wait nope I never seen that. I was thinking of some other movie.

Jette - 11-16-2004 at 10:30 AM

oh, not to worry people, its not on till wednesday

poobs - 11-16-2004 at 11:25 AM

I've seen it..All I remember is Marilyn Manson as a porn star..Oh wait..That's Lost Highway..:duh:

But I've also seen Mulholland Drive..I think I know what the ending was all about, but I'll refrain from ruining Jette's day by talking about it..:D

Jette - 11-16-2004 at 12:14 PM

thanks!

poobs - 11-16-2004 at 02:47 PM

Same ending as Lost Boys. When are these writers gonna get more creative?

poobs - 11-16-2004 at 05:45 PM

I don't know..It was the same ending as Alien Vs. Predator, too..When will people learn to NOT have butlers??

JunoRedneck - 11-16-2004 at 06:17 PM

Psh, that's why I don't have a butler.

minimandy14 - 11-16-2004 at 07:26 PM

PFF me either!

JunoRedneck - 11-16-2004 at 08:34 PM

I forgot two of the main movies I was obsessed with as a kid! Time Bandits and Willow!!!! Mainly, Time Bandits. I know this thread is kind of about butlers now, but I couldn't leave out poor little Time Bandits. Oh rie in eye ay, oh rie in eye ay, oh rie in ah key ooh lay... ok, I'll stop.

minimandy14 - 11-16-2004 at 09:04 PM

JunoRedneck - 11-16-2004 at 10:37 PM

Are you yawning at Time Bandits?!? How dare you!

7cut - 11-17-2004 at 04:55 AM

oh, i like Time Bandits ...Gilliam´s movies are good. it always reminds me of my childhood when watching it. i also like those silly Bill Murray movies of the past or the Ghostbusters movies. they´re not funny or something but just comfy to watch. but i can´t take Eddie Murphy no more. aaaah. is his original voice halfway as annoying as it´s German dubbing ? and Marilyn Manson takes part in "Lost Highway" ?

minimandy14 - 11-17-2004 at 12:14 PM

no i wasn't yawning at time bandits, i have never seen them so i really couldn't. but ghostbusters THERES a movie i know :D i love ghostbusters!

HE HE HE :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

poobs - 11-17-2004 at 01:03 PM

Soo..What were you yawning at? :P

minimandy14 - 11-17-2004 at 04:52 PM

iono this is a kinda boring thread. . . . and i am tired. . . . .

7cut - 11-18-2004 at 04:49 AM

i liked that latest Jim Carey movie "Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind" (or was it sunrise ?) anyway. also this Andy Kauffmann movie with Nicolas Cage in it. and some time ago i liked this tales of the crypt movie with Billy Zane in it. even thought he was hot. the worst movie i´ve ever seen might be Rat Race. they promoted it the funniest film ever but it was so poor. it ended with a Smash Mouth concert. (why is there no smilie expressing disgust) oh, i forgot to add i love all Mel Brooks movies there are..

The inquisition, what a show. The inquisition, here we go! We know you´re wishing that we go away. but the inquisition´s here, and it´s here to stay!!!

minimandy14 - 11-18-2004 at 07:16 PM

HA HA HA! i just read that on the other thread! heh it sounds funny i LOVE mel brooks films too. he's the one that made "History of the world PT 1, and Young Frankenstein" right?

JunoRedneck - 11-18-2004 at 07:30 PM

I LOVE Young Frankenstein! It is one of my favorite movies of all time. I've seen it so many times, and it always makes me laugh. "Roll, roll, roll in ze hay"

minimandy14 - 11-18-2004 at 08:21 PM

EvilMotivator - 11-22-2004 at 09:12 AM

I haven't seen it yet, but looks pretty funny to me. It's taken forever to come out on dvd, what's with that?

poobs - 11-22-2004 at 12:27 PM

I'm sure they wanted to wait until the holiday season to come around again..

JunoRedneck - 11-22-2004 at 01:53 PM

I thought it was funny. But it's been a while since I saw it, so I don't remember a whole lot. I just remember that Will Ferrell always makes me laugh.

EvilMotivator - 11-22-2004 at 01:57 PM

more cowbell

JunoRedneck - 11-22-2004 at 01:59 PM

:lol: I laughed when I thought of him in that skit, but then I started laughing harder when I heard my laugh. It's half whisper, and half like squeaking.

EvilMotivator - 11-22-2004 at 02:01 PM

I wanna hear it. Record it, or something.

JunoRedneck - 11-22-2004 at 02:07 PM

I'll try.

poobs - 11-22-2004 at 02:40 PM

poobs - 11-22-2004 at 02:41 PM

"If you'll excuse me..I cut my foot earlier and my shoe is filling up with blood.."

Evangeline - 11-22-2004 at 02:47 PM

Mel Brooks is cool because he saved America. If it weren't for him, we'd all (us americans anyways) be speaking English right now!

Jette - 11-22-2004 at 03:03 PM

oh romy and michelle is so heartwarming ^_^ i love it. im not too fond of lisa kudrow though, all she can play is phoebe

talking about heartwarming movies, has anyone seen amélie? ..or was it already meantioned? its LOVELY

EvilMotivator - 11-22-2004 at 03:24 PM

Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion and Amélie were both great movies indeed.

poobs - 11-22-2004 at 05:52 PM

Do you think that it's a chick movie? I just find it really funny, but is that cuz I'm a girl? Some guy at work said that it was one of the worst movies he's ever seen..Then again, he has to hate everything I like cuz he's a dildo..Hmm..

Jette - 11-23-2004 at 03:20 AM

i think boys might like it but are too afraid to admit that

7cut - 11-23-2004 at 06:19 AM

i liked the colours Amèlie was filmed in ...

i wanna take part in a monumental film ..i´d wear a toga and eat grapes.

Seb - 11-23-2004 at 12:07 PM

Amelie is such a good film, I watched it back to back 3 times because I liked it so much.

poobs - 11-23-2004 at 03:49 PM
