I've been listening to Leonard Cohen for the last 6 hours. Work is boring, but I can listen to headphones. It took me awhile to get into him, but
the more I play his songs, the more brilliant they reveal themselves to be. I never heard his record from last year though, was that any good?

Allow me to name drop a little - he was at one of the early (ha! last year) Ima Robot Viper Room shows when his offspring performed that same evening.
I think I saw a waitress take a bottle of Dom over to his table.
As far as his last album, you mean the two-disc set, right? Because his previous album, with the new songs, I didn't really like...and I like Cohen
in general. What are you listening to?
I have to admit that the reason I like Cohen is primarily because I love Donovan and Cohen reminds me of him. Especially on songs like "Sisters of
Mercy."

What two-disc set? I meant the one with the new songs, I hadn't heard much about it really.
I was listening to his Greatest Hits, mostly. I also have New Skin for the Old Ceremony.

Yes, Donovan! He has the same vocal quality. Esp. in that song.
Cohen came out with a compilation last year, but the year before he released new tracks with a backing singer whose voice I really don't like. I
almost would like to hear those songs re-recorded as solo acoustic dealies.
Also, Cohen is out touring right now. He was in Minneapolis last week, I think.

While I really do enjoy Donovan, I always think of him as a joke, mainly because of all the scenes in Don't Look Back where Bob Dylan constantly makes
fun of him. 
Hmm, must look into seeing Cohen. Can't pass up shows like that, even if he's not so good anymore.
I had to pass on seeing Damo Suzuki (ex-lead singer of Can) the other day, which I'll probably regret in a little while. 
Yo La Tengo is coming in April though! Woohoo

I remember seeing that movie in college and feeling sorry for Donovan, being picked on like that! I do know that his relationship with his son,
Donovan Leitch, is pretty rocky, guess he was just an irascible folk singer.

I don't really know much about him, but I do like his music. I have Hurdy Gurdy Man, which is a cool album. The title track is an amazing song, it
has some of my favorite Jeff Beck guitar playing. Also one of my all-time favorite musicians, John Paul Jones (Led Zep's bassist), did a lot of
arranging for Donovan. He did the horns for "Mellow Yellow," and the story is that nobody liked them until Paul McCartney walked by in the studio,
heard it, and said, "I dig that."

Hey,
I just thought I'd interject and say that if you love Donovan like I do, you should also give The Lovin' Spoonful a chance. They're pretty hard to
take seriously sometimes, but besides silly stuff they have some really beautiful songs. Check out "Coconut Grove".
