They play at the creepy crawl in St. Louis. that place is great, one of the best, I guess you could call it a bar(s) around. Except when the people
get drunk.foxyhardcore - 10-27-2003 at 04:13 PM
heh. it's small and smoke-infested.
hopefully someone back home will record the show...lomax - 10-28-2003 at 09:48 AM

First post on these forums. I've yet to ever step foot inside Creepy Crawl but from what I've heard it's a hole. It sure looks it from
the outside. If I had a setup I would tape this show for sure but I don't have anything to tape with. I imagine most people here in St. Louis
have never heard of Ima Robot so I'm interested to see what the turnout is. Creepy Crawl just updated their site this week to show that Ima Robot
will be there. Anyway, I'll definitely let everyone know how the show goes.

how come?esqfool - 10-29-2003 at 01:26 AM
You'd be surprised how many people my age (I'm 22), have never heard of a lot of bands. Most cable packages here in St. Louis only have MTV
for music so I doubt many have seen the video. I've seen it on the CTN shit they show on campus here at school, but I still don't think many
people who know who they are in STL. Then again, I heard the Mars Volta show sold out here the other week and I'd have said the same thing so who
knows. I might actually buy tix beforehand for this show just to ensure that I don't get there and its soldout. Especially seeing how small
I've heard the Creepy Crawl is.lomax - 10-29-2003 at 02:16 AM
ahh, mars volta, now your talking my language. i've seen them 3 times, 4th in november! u a bit of a fan?draconian - 10-29-2003 at 04:19 AM
How about college radio? Any play there? Sometimes it's people's only exposure to a band.esqfool - 10-29-2003 at 07:36 AM
College radio exists only on campus in STL I'm pretty sure. There aren't any spots left on the dial anymore so you can't get a license
to broadcast I'm pretty positive. They probably get play on 93x here in St. Louis now that I think of it, but that's a small station.
Anyway, yeah I just bought the Mars Volta CD and I like it a lot. I don't know why I didn't bother to go see their show.Chuckles - 10-29-2003 at 01:02 PM
Hmm... I haven't heard of any college radio stations. At least for a long time. I just wish they had more of them. Madison Wisconsin has a couple
of good stations. If you ever go to Madison, go to lake menona I think it is and jump off the pier. did that fully clothed with jeans and a t-shirt
almost drowned. Best day of my life, especially since I got to hear my brothers band play. ANYONE IN MADISON IF YOU EVER HEAR OF A COLLEGE BAND CALLED
SIBLING RIVALRY, THAT'S MY BROTHERS BAND. He plays a greenish-blue epiphone Les Paul. Nice sound that thing has.foxyhardcore - 10-30-2003 at 11:50 AM
88.1 KDHX is a great resource. i used to know some of the volunteers there, but i believe they're long gone. i have the address of the station
somewhere (it wasn't too far from my old apt)....we could send them a copy of the cd. they have some pretty rad dj's and afternoon
playlists.
actually, now that i think about it....if i could get my hands on some things, i could have my friends drop off flyers/posters at vintage vinyl and
euclid records......

i spent 24 years around "the hill." (my parents came over from italy...) i miss the cheap rent. i had a rad 1920's 2-bedroom
victorian-style apt for $365 a month. in the city! now i pay 900 for a shoebox. a cute shoebox, but still. pfftth.

:o belissima! you have got to find someone to share an apt. with...thats nutrageous!esqfool - 11-10-2003 at 09:29 PM
Alright, literally just walked in from the show. Ima Robot was great as was Junior Senior. If you don't think Junior Senior will be good and
leave after Ima Robot like I almost did you are making a big mistake. Anyway, I'll try to reconstruct the setlist. I know Song #1 was first,
followed by Scream, then Dirty Life, then A is for Action, then STD Dance, then Dynomite, then Alive, then Philosophee, next is Black Jetta's and
finally Here Comes the Bombs. I might have totally fucked up this setlist but that's the best I can remember. I knwo they did play all those
songs at least. I talked to JMJ after the show. Real cool guy, surprised I think that I even knew his name or who he was. Anyway, next tour is with
the Raveonettes he said. I asked him about them opening for BRMC and he said it might happen in Europe. I didn't wanna bug him so I just left
after that. Alex seemed like he was wasted b/c he had to ask JMJ what city they were in, lol. Anyway, do not pass up this tour. Junior Senior was
fucking great if you like clap along pop rock like early Beatles and The Knack. Just my impression. That's all. I got a flyer from the show if
anyone's interested, I could possibly scan it. Just a fairly plain flyer. No Ima Robot merchandise for sale either, kind of disappointing, but oh
well.draconian - 11-11-2003 at 04:24 AM
Thanks for the review, esqfool--good to hear Alex is well again and you were able to see their awesome set.
We'd love to see the flier if you've got it. And thanks for asking about the upcoming tour--I wonder if he meant the Raveonettes support
gig will be for Europe...
St Louis Show
cza - 11-11-2003 at 08:48 AM
The sounds last night were not bad at all for the creepy. ImaRobot was great. St Louis is still trying to catch on to ElectroClash. The energy that
the band put out made you unable to look away. The singers voice was strangely reminicent of Geza-X and John Lydon. You could feel the LA punk scene
still burning strong. And the blatant use of electronics was icing on the cake.
The response to JrSr was unbeliveable. Everyone was singing along and of course the tallest people in the joint positioned themselves right in front
of the vertically challenged.
The things that make creepy one of the best spots is the fact that they are open 7 days a week with tons of shows. We have seen Shonen Knife, Melt
Banana, Wesley Willis, Just to name a few. And they just keep coming.
I do agree in the fact that the ventilation is poor. With a stong mix of body odor and cigarette smoke it can be overwhelming after a couple of
hours. But worth it none the less.
Dont expect to see either of these bands at the creepy, next time they could easily pack a larger venue. But Thanks to all that made this show
happen!!
PS. No merch for ImaRobot was a real bummer.

good to hear it was good show. Alex wasted? not so sure about that though. Next stop. Lawrence?draconian - 11-11-2003 at 09:53 AM
He could still be fighting off the effects of strep.esqfool - 11-11-2003 at 10:18 AM
Alex seemed wasted, maybe he was just acting goofy. He was like all climbing up in the ceiling and shit and going all over the stage. Yeah, I directly
asked Justin who they were gonna tour with next and he said Raveonettes, then I was like well what about everyone wanting you to tour with BRMC and
he's like oh maybe in Europe but that's a ways off. Like cza said, the response to Junior Senior was fucking insane. They put on a great
show too. Great sound at the venue. Ima Robot sounded perfect. First time for me really hearing the STD Dance. The audience loved it. This was a sort
of show St. Louis rarely gets, but at least I can say I was there for it.colforbin6 - 11-11-2003 at 10:22 AM
I'll take acting goofy for $200. Does Junior Sr. have a single out right now?draconian - 11-11-2003 at 10:24 AM
Move Your Feet is out over here, I think they had Rhythm Bandits out in Europe this past spring.
Very fun live act.colforbin6 - 11-11-2003 at 10:29 AM
word. thank you drac.nurzetrev - 11-11-2003 at 12:29 PM
This is the type of show (tour) that I'm talking about (BRMC link) and obvs the response is stellar..."we don't get this type of
show", talk is proof in the pudding (as well the Shonen and MxBx ref - who I did tours with. based on this idea of playing all the places
you've never been and where others rarely go). They all lots of options to play wherever maybe, but their core fanbase is waiting right in the
middle of the good ol Us of A.
No merch? Come on...don't tell me they needed oil rags and they used the tour shirts?
Everyone also seems to love the name CREEPY CRAWL...over a hundred peeps have looked at it...kinda CrEEpY...
st. Louis, don't you guys make your own private beer that's cheep and not distributed like 'Old Ironsides' brew or something like
that...?

I am glad I got there early enough to see IMA Robot, I have been franticaly in search of STD Dance and finally found a version on this site. I really
thought they were great. Will be purchasing there album soon. Anyone with knowldge of where to located a hard copy of STD Dance drop me a line.draconian - 11-12-2003 at 06:45 PM
One of the UK Song #1 4-track singles is on eBay now. Get it while it lasts.
(STD Dance is a B-side, but be forewarned, it sounds a lot different than the live track.)
edit: and here is the link to a test press auction of the same item, essentially: Test Press

If anyone cares to see where Ima Robot played here in St. Louis, the video for Story of the Year's "Til the Day I Die" video is filmed
there. I saw them last night open for Jane's Addiction and wasn't very impressed. Jane's though were SICK.MichelleRene - 12-11-2003 at 06:20 AM
They really don't sound similar to Janes Addiction-that's weird that they opened for them. I liked Janes when "Nothing Shocking"
came out so very long ago. I'm not into their (new) sound anymore. But none the less they are a talented bunch.
As far as not being too impressed with the Robot....why? Did they have an off-night? Or were you just not into thier sound? Do you like their album?esqfool - 12-11-2003 at 09:41 AM
I love the 'Bot. I meant that I didn't care for Story of the Year. They opened for Jane's in KC. Sorry wasn't very clear there now
that I read it. Anyway, Bot rules. Story of the Year however doesnt. Just giving people a heads up if they wanted to see where Bot played here.
