i want The Bot to come to OZ!

This might sound stupid, but can anyone think of a reason why i shouldn't burn copies of "Dynomite" onto a cd and send them to radio stations in Australia (where i live) at my own expense to see what response i get?

Perhaps the mods can point out if that'd get me into copyright trouble or something... but it's hard to see it hurting the chances of creating some interest in the band thus increasing likelyhood of some tunes here thus increasing likelihood of a TOUR!

But it's late and i'm tired, so someone just tell me if it's a stoopid idea.

Ha! It's the street-teamer equivalent of going postal. Well I have a question that you might be able to answer. Was the album released in Australia/New Zealand? If so, there's a chance they might be pushing the Alive EP out there right now. Can you call up a couple of radio stations with requests of either Dynomite or any of the EP tracks and see if they have it?

How much time do you have? If you want to mount a full-on Australian blitz, post some more ideas and how you'll execute them. I don't know much about Aussie markets (except JJJ), so you'll have to fill us in.

Ok. Just rang my local Indie record store (the kind that would definately have The Bot if they had been released here) but they don't have anything.

Bascially here, in Melbourne at least, there are three levels of radio staion. On the top tear (the most popular) are the typical commercial stations, i'm sure you know what i mean. Then there are the underground stations on the bottom tear, which basically play demos or live performances or just anything that they have from local and internation acts that are quality but perhaps don't have global appeal, we're talking niche markets here. In between these two extremes comes JJJ which supports alternative music so long as it has commercial appeal.

Basically JJJ is a more watered down version of a commercial station... plus it has to support home grown talent more so because it's government funded.

EASILY THE BEST station in Melbourne (unfortunately they only broadcast in this city... but they are on the web) is RRR (local 102.7FM) because they completely support independent acts and alternative acts. If you sent in a killer demo tape and someone liked it they would most likely play it, regardless of record deals or musical politics.

While i can't really commit to a full-on market blitz i thought something like this level of exposure might just stir up some interest from the underground. RRR is funded by personal subscriptions and receives absolutely no funding from the government so they are completely uncensored and answer to nobody. There are a number of shows that feature specifically internation acts... plus people who listen are more committed to the music/bands they hear on this station because, like me, they subscribe and want their money's worth! :)

So... if i mailed maybe five sample cds to various ppl at this station, and then maybe (say another five) to various ppl at other underground stations.... who knows what could happen.

What do youse think?
