Perhaps an unlikely pairing in theory, SoCal bands No Doubt and Blink-182 are teaming up for what is easily the most interesting tour of the early
summer touring schedule. While the ska/pop and new-wave influenced No Doubt is touring its greatest hits release "Singles 1992-2003," power
pop act Blink-182 is supporting its recently released self-titled album, which finds the San Diego-based trio exploring a more mature sound. You can
see this co-headlining show June 12 at Blossom Music Center. Tickets are $43.50 - $51.50, and go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday through all Ticketmaster
locations. Yes, you can expect this to sell out.
In terms of powerful and intoxicating metal, the Jagermeister Tour's upcoming bill of Slipknot, Fear Factory and Chimaira (a Cleveland-based
band) could be THE concert tour to witness this spring. You can see the chaotic monstrosity April 17 at Cleveland's Tower City Amphitheater and
April 18 at Columbus' PromoWest Pavilion. Tickets are $24.50 ADV (advance)/$26 DOS (day of show)(Cleveland) and $26.50 (Columbus), and go on sale
at 10 a.m. Friday through all Ticketmaster locations.
Over the past 40 years, singer/songwriter Joan Baez witnessed folk music's roller coaster ride through popularity. With numerous hit albums to
her credit, the New York City native is currently touring her latest disc, "Dark Chords on a Big Guitar," with a March 27 date at the
Lakewood Civic Auditorium. Tickets are $27.50-$35, and go on sale at 10 am. Friday through all Ticketmaster locations.
Perhaps against all odds, Rod Stewart has successfully left behind his sex, drugs and rock'n'roll persona for a more refined,
orchestra-backed swing motif. While his attempt for continued success is quite overt, fans are eating it up, taking Stewart's latest disc
"As Time Goes By: The Great American Songbook, Vol. 2" into the multi-platinum range. Fans of Rod "the Bod" can hear his
transformation live in concert July 27 at Gund Arena. Tickets are $49.75-$97.25, and go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday through all Ticketmaster
locations.
Attention classic rock fans: Dennis DeYoung, formerly of Styx, is touring his greatest hits with a special March 6 show scheduled for the State
Theater. In addition, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra will be backing DeYoung as he performs such famous radio memories as "Babe,"
"Lady," "Come Sail Away" and more. And yes, the quintessential '80s song "Mr. Roboto" will be included. The
Chicago-based DeYoung also plans on playing rarely-played Styx album tracks. Tickets are $26-$56, and are now on sale at all Tickets.com locations.
Punk/rock act Saves the Day is touring the Midwest this spring with lo-fi band Grandaddy in tow. This rocking bill plays April 2 at the Cleveland
Agora. Opening are Fire Theft and Hey Mercedes. Tickets are $22.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through all Ticketmaster locations.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum inductee Al Green returns to Northeast Ohio for a March 24 date at the Palace Theater. This greatest-hits show
caters directly to longtime fans, who can expect to hear such classic Green songs as "Tired of Being Alone," "Let's Stay
Together," "I'm Still in Love With You," "Look What You Done for Me" and "Put a Little Love in Your Heart."
Tickets are $35-$50, and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through all Tickets.com locations or by calling (800) 766-6048.
Who's the king of funk? If you answered George Clinton, then you are correct and you deserve a "Fry with that shake." This eccentric
funk man has been kicking out the jams for nearly 30 years. You can see George Clinton and P-Funk March 12 at the PromoWest Pavilion. Tickets are $27
ADV/$29 DOS and are now on sale at all Ticketmaster locations.Â
In case you haven't noticed, indie pop has taken over the alternative world. One band finding success in the genre is Death Cab for Cutie, which
is touring its latest disc "Transatlanticism" with a co-headlining jaunt with indie singer/songwriter Ben Kweller. The tour plays March 31
at The Odeon. Tickets are $17.50 ADV/$19 DOS, and are currently on sale at all Ticketmaster locations.Â
If '70s Southern California rock is your thing (think Neil Young meets The Byrds), The Thrills is a must-see band. Never you mind the group calls
Ireland home. You can see these Dubliners April 7 at the Beachland Ballroom. Tickets are $12.50 ADV/$14 DOS and are currently on sale at (216)
383-1124.
With an adult pop rock style that includes spiritual overtones and cathartic songwriting, Switchfoot is hoping its major label debut "The
Beautiful Letdown" finds mainstream success. The San Diego band is currently touring with an April 12 show scheduled for the Newport Music Hall.
Opening are the Jealous Sound and Copeland. Tickets are $13 ADV/$15 DOS, and go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday through all Ticketmaster locations.
Hey there Phish fans. If you're in the market for an up-and-coming granola-minded group, check out The Slip, which is scheduled to play April 1
at the Newport Music Hall.
With a jazz/blues flair and a fusion mindset steeped in a jam-band virtuosity, this New England act has been turning heads with their 2002 release
"Live is my Jumby." Opening this Columbus show is Hairy Apes BMX.
Tickets are $8 ADV/$10 DOS, and go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday through all Ticketmaster locations.Â
Indie rock act Blue October travels from Texas to play a special show at the Newport Music Hall Feb. 27. Opening is local alt rock act X-Rated
Cowboys. Tickets for this show are $5, and are currently on sale at all Ticketmaster locations.
Phish cover band Phix is playing a special show March 12 at the Newport Music Hall. Tickets are $6 ADV/$8 DOS, and are now on sale at all
Ticketmaster locations.Â
While the upcoming Sounds show scheduled for Feb. 21 at the Cleveland Agora is appealing in its own right, the bill includes a potent list of
up-and-coming rock acts that shouldn't be missed. Kill Hannah, a glam/grunge outfit from Chicago, always puts on a great show; however, it is Ima Robot that should garner the attention with its modern punk rock sound. Tickets are $12 ADV/$14 DOS,
and are currently on sale at all Ticketmaster locations.
NOTES:
After selling out his April 16 date at the Ohio Theater, Todd Rundgren has added another show April 17. Tickets are $29.75-$38.75, and are now on sale
at all Tickets.com locations. |
