Absolute Punk Forum Mini-Review

Kamtin from the Absolute Punk Forums reviewed the Denver 3/5 show with the Sounds and had these nice observations about Ima Robot:

The Sounds/Kill Hannah/Ima Robot - 3/5/04 @ The Bluebird Theatre, Denver, CO

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Sounds/Kill Hannah/Ima Robot - 3/5/04 @ The Bluebird Theatre, Denver, CO

As Denver's Bluebird Theatre filled with a very diverse crowd, including "hipsters", "emo kids", and even "goths" (oh, how I love all these stereotypes), everyone knew they would be in for one of the best shows of their lives. The sold-out crowd pushed closer to the stage as the spazzy Ima Robot hit the floor. The some-what neo-new wave 5-piece blew up on stage with "Song #1," as the crowd immediately grew into what they were doing. The 'coked out' antics of lead singer Alex Elbert were easily enjoyable as the bands sound was flawless. They continued to play tracks from their debut self-titled album, and many fans were made that night.

As the "emo kids" moved out and the "goths" moved in, Kill Hannah arrived on stage. I was a bit hesitant to the band, as I thought I would be watching the next Orgy, but to my surprise, they were one of the best bands all night. Looking prettier than half the girls in the crowd, the band blasted through songs from their latest debut album, For Never and Ever, including "Unwanted," "They Can't Save Us Now," and the fan favorite, "Kennedy". The sound was absolutely perfect and the stage energy added up as well.

As the night grew later than expected, the hipster-Swedes finally hit the stage with as much energy as you can have. The Sounds, fronted by the beautiful Maja Ivarsson, blew everyone away with their flawless live performance, hot style, and even hotter dance moves. Playing majority of the songs off Living In America, and even treating the crowd to a brand new song which was written in Denver a few months earlier, everyone couldn't help themselves from dancing their feet off. As the other two bands on the bill were outstanding, there was no possibly way to topping the performance brought by The Sounds. They were by far one of the best live bands I have ever seen and you'd be plain stupid to pass up the opportunity to see these guys (and one lovely girl) play.

Kamtin's Score - 5/5 (*****)

Yeah every time I see a reviewer comment on how high Alex was during the show, I think of that. People refuse to believe he could come up with that in anything but a drug-addled state.
