Song #1 Review - Dosomethingpretty.com

One of the more original reviews for the Song #1 single yet--because B-sides are never mentioned in these reviews, maybe we can extrapolate that they are only getting the one-track promo? Will STD Dance never get its day in court?

From Dosomethingpretty.com:

IMA ROBOT – Song 1
(Virgin)

"What do you get if you cross the moog sound from Hawkwind’s ‘Silver Machine’ with the chorus from Devo’s ‘Whip It’, add a dash of Sparks’ ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us’, throw in some of Beck’s old mates and have a guy called Timmy The Terror knock out spacerock basslines over it?

Easy. You get the most infectious single since Hot Hot Heat’s ‘Bandages’ first filled the Feet First dancefloor back in February, and one that should see Ima Robot breaking from the slop bucket of Camden Underworld to places a little more salubrious, air conditioned even, but where the theme revolves around a defiant thumbs up to all things Bowie, Kraftwerk and Duran Duran.

What do you mean we’ve already been there? It’s called electroclash? Yeah well, time to start again then I say, because with ‘Song 1’, Ima Robot pretty much fuse a sub-genre all of their own in little under 2-and-a-half minutes. "
