Review of Lawrence, KS Show

From definitelydan.com:

Ima Robot
Lawrence, KS
March 4, 2004

Ima Robot takes the stage nonchalantly and welcomes the audience. The music starts while lead singer, Alex, stretches and begins to twitch randomly off beat. The next 45 minutes belong to Ima Robot as all eyes are glued to the five on stage who have come to entertain. Their set is a visual and aural stimulation. From the drums covered with red velvet to mullet-sporting Alex with his colorful smoking jacket and torn-to-shreds 80s t-shirt; the band brings their own quirky personalities to the stage.

The music, too, is reminiscent of another decade. Particularly the song not covered on the album, “The STD Dance.” This song is one of many highlights to the show and can be described as a rocking version of a porn soundtrack with lyrics. Tim (on guitar) and Justin (on bass) add dimension to the song by dancing along. Among the best moves attempted was, appropriately enough, “The Robot.”

The audience also responded favorably to songs, “Dirty Life,” and “12=3.” Several fans sang along with Alex and took delight in his amp climbing antics and spasms during the songs. Even during their slower song, “Scream,” Ima Robot kept the audience enthralled. The band is entertaining and energetic and are musically seasoned professionals who look comfortable and belong on the stage.
