i'm just gonna be honest...
each song on the search and destroy ep is far better than every song on this cd, they ruined chip off the block, and ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, i am just
really fucking dissapointed.
hopefully it'll grow on me, but i really don't see that happening. I'll be happy with the s/t and all my bsides i guess :/

Yeah, you two don't know what you are talking about.
Chip of the Block is so much better than the demo.
I don't know how to put it into words but the album does seem a bit more 'full' or 'filled' compared to the first, but I still love it.
My only complaint is that it isn't long enough. Especially when its noted they wrote a lot of songs for this album..
The EP is great, both albums are great, and all of the b-sides are great. I feel priveledged to know about this band and can't wait for more!

Okay, so I'm honest, too.
Sorry to say that, but I agree with Randon and 'doubtaholic.
Monument to the masses has some good songs. The tunes that I really like are Eskimo Ride (the best one from the album), Pouring Pain, Stick it to the
man, Creeps me out and parts of The Beat. But: they're not that great when I compare them to around 20 of my favorite Ima songs like STD Dance, Black
Jettas, Dirty Life, My Number, A is for action, Paint the town red, and and and..
All the other songs of Monument are not bad, but I really don't feel absorbed to them like I feel when I listen to the self-titled album, to the EP or
to most of the b-sides and demos. Especially the 'edgy', 'quirky' side was the thing that made Ima Robot so special to me. No other band sounded like
them. Now this album is just as good as hundreds of other albums. Not better, not worse.. it's vanishing in the land of 'not bad' albums.
And what about Fibonacci?? In my opinion, this song is also way better than EVERY song on Monument to the masses. THIS song is a killer. THIS is the
one that I wanna listen to day and night. I bet that, from the time they wrote/produced the album, there are a lot of unreleased songs that I'd like
much more.
I hope I didn't disappoint anyone. It's just the way I feel about the thing. It's just my opinion.
PS: I have almost the same problem with the new The Rapture album.

Yeah, Fibonacci is the one recent song that does sound like their older stuff. I wish I had a good quality recording of it.

isnt the reason this record is distinctly different than their other material due to the pressure from their label for them to put out a "more
straightforward, pop" album? sure, it does detract from their unique sound, but all if they want is sales, you cant stray too far from the pop
formula. im guessing the band foresaw this and felt the urge to release Search and Destroy, more like what they would want to put out.

I really like the new CD. I really like Eskimo Ride, Lovers In Captivity and Pouring Pain...maybe I'm a sucker for the 'popier' sound.
The re-do of Chip could never live up to the original for me just due to the fact of all the other memories that I have attached to when I first heard
the original demo of Chip Off The Block about 4 years ago.

I agree with Phobiac, I will always love the original Chip off the block. The new cd is just alright will take some time to grow on me. But honestly
when I heard Search and Destroy I immediately loved every song. Maybe because the Search and Destroy music is way Newer doesnt the new cd say it was
recorded in 2005? I may be wrong.

it's totally growing on me. i can't put it down. the first album was the same with the growing thing. BUT, the first album had things that would
pop out at you for the first time after you'd already heard it 50 times... that to me is part of what was so amazing about it. i think that what's
really getting my attention is the idea of seeing these new songs live. i think it's going to be awesome.
the only thing missing for me is the creepy ima. like the what are we made from kind of song.
there should've been more. and fibonacci will be the silent killer.
i dream of ebert.

turtle i think youre right. cause the album was supposed to come out way back in the spring, so it must have been recorded in mid/late '05 and written
some time before that

I agree..I don't hate the new version, but the old one has such a special place in my heart..What a long journey it's been.. The album is growing on me..There were a few songs that I loved right away and a few
that I wasn't too stoked about but am getting used to..I love this band no matter what, but I was expecting to be blown away with this album and I'm
just not..Ahh well..There's always the next one, eh?

I think I'm going to look forward to the next EP rather than album if it means more creative control for the band. Though I like the album overall,
it pales in comparison to the EP, imo. The latter is more consistent and organically comprised, with a less-polished sound that suits them well.
But I do love Eskimo Ride.

i found the same with the s/t, but give this one 50 listens and i'm sure the same will happen. the beat, happy annie, creeps me out, and stick it to
the man are my personal favourites from the new one. the only problem i've got is the revised chip off the block. sittin in god's ear... god why?
the original is absolutely perfect. i don't necessarily think that ima robots more pop side is necessarily the result of record pressure. what i
mean is they've got a more diverse sound than almost any other band i can think of and the do good pop.
