IMA ROBOT
by Eric Schulz
Ima Robot EMI/VIRGIN
"Not since Jane’s Addiction has an unsigned LA band attracted such crowds and attention as Ima Robot. Musically, the band is all over the map.
There are elements here of punk rock, new wave and electro pop, among other things. Imagine a little bit of the Dickies, the Dead Kennedys, techno,
and moog keyboards, and you’re on your way to their sound. Even though the band has a lot of influences, they manage to create a unified sound and
album. On “Dynomite” and “Song #1” Ima Robot mix outer space sci–fi keyboards, catchy bass lines and slashing punk rock guitars to create an
incredibly fresh, fun and zany musical experience. “Here Comes the Bombs” is an irresistible take on consumer society and sheep–like values. The music
combines Saturday morning cartoon like keyboards with hardcore punk. Needless to say, it’s been getting a lot of play in my stereo! I can’t help but
praise a band that actually tries to be original. Highly recommended!"
