Ebert is Geddy Lee incarnite?
Is it only me or does anyone else hear the similarity between ImaRobot and late 80's Rush?
I mean: Talk Turkey=New World Man/Time Stand Still
Scream = Much of 'Hold Your Fire"
12=3 even contains an exact riff from Cygnus X-1.
I also hear other Canadian influences; Streetheart, Men Without Hats.... maybe cause I'm Canadian!!
Oh , and if you're wondering about Ebert's hair, check Geddy Lee on Grace Under Pressure!
Good stuff though.... It got me pulling out Roll the Bones,Power Windows etc...

Ha, first Geddy Lee post since summer 2002! I think that was one of our first topics on this board. I hear it, too, but find it odd that in all the
comparisons made by the press (see Ima Robot In-Print Comparisons thread in either Discussion or Media), not many in the printed world have seemed to
hear it.

Yea, well you know those Rolling Stone types ain't too bright. They only hear blaringly obvious surface stuff," it's punk, it's
glam, blah blah blah..."(Guess I'm just mad about the 2 star review)
Actually the first thing I heard in Ebert's voice is Streetheart- " Well here it comes, Here comes tha night !"
I don't know about his story of only listening to rap though....
ALEX lifson
geddy lEE
neil pEART = ALEX EBERT . I must be nuts

I know alot of people will hate this when I say it, but: I haaaaaate RUSH!!!!
Growing up my older brother listened to them, and I grew to hate them. I know all three of them are incredible musicians, but as a whole I HATE
Them!!! Geddy's voice is so annoying!! And that's weird because I love Alex's voice and persona. So, the comparison baffles me...When I
first heard the Bot and saw their video, that's what first attracted me to them. They have a unique look and sound!!! Rush's songs all bored
me to sleep...sorry all you musicians, musicians. I know they are talented individually.
I'm sorry, but I can't stand Rush!!!! :P

Forgiven.:D
There is this tradition of either hating RUSH, or loving them. I've been listening to New World Man, and Subdivisions this week, and remember
thought passing my head about unique voices, and thought of Alex too. I thought of my favorite lyric from Stephen Malkymus, "What about the
voice of Geddy Lee. How did it get so high. I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy. I met him, and he does." Now, from that I'm
getting that Geddy has 2 different voices, but when you talk to Alex, he has only 1, and there's no mistaking it. Anyway, comparison duly noted.
Lately I've been thinking that everyone has a purpose, and Alexs' purpose was definitely to sing the songs that he has. It's so cool,
because things have happened to me that are a direct result of IMA ROBOT existing. Call me crazy.:duh:
Man, remember those old stoner RUSH T-shirts that were actually little league baseball shirts, but in Black & White. Wow, definitely a staple of
Americana. RUSH rules. No offense Michelle, but your bro was/is cool.:D

Yea! I still have one of those shirts from Grace Under Pressure!
Wasnt the song "I Robot" on that?
Like it or not Ebert has serious Rushness goin on.
He tempers it with some sexual sleaze so its not as geeky though, but even the lyrics of Talk Turkey are VERY Neil Peart. Rhyming words like
conversation,motivation,moderation...
Its cool though.Haven't heard that lyric style in awhile.
Has he fessed up to this influence in interviews?
He says all he knows is rap but i can't believe it.

Michelle, you're right (although I do not hate Rush, but I just don't care for them.)
Rush = music for musicians.
Just like Dream Theater or any guitar-jazz-art-whatever band. To me it's boring, the musicians are so faaaantaaaastic, the songs are boring.
Sorry.

Noise Monster, You should give a listen to Time Stand Still. The similarity to Talk Turkey is kinda shocking.

Don't laugh - but I did today! I did not really see the parallels. What
exactly do you mean is so similar?

Actually New World Man is the verse.
I don't know... It's in the chord progressions and just the way Ebert doubles his high voice with a low spoken one. It's a Geddy
trick...
If you have Power Windows , look at the kid on the cover .A blond Alex Ebert!
Sorry to go on about Rush like this but I was a drummer for years aand Neil Peart is my hero
(met him skiing too!)
Hey, my last name happens to be Ebert but with an"H"

Same here bro. When I was listening to New World Man the other day, I was thinking how would I have played that. My playing is very basic in
comparison, and I realized that Neil was kind of over the top, but in a good way. His fills are incredible. He would be like an Olympic Medalist of
drumming, or another analogy would be if we car racers, he'd be Mario Andretti, and I would be the Duke Boys. I dunno just kind of getting silly here at the end of the day. I think I want to hear a more raw version of RUSH
music not so perfect ya know. Has anyone heard any covers of RUSH?
