Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (10:00, US Cellular Connection Stage)
Edward Sharpe isn’t a real person, so don’t get too confused here. The Magnetic Zeros, led by Ima Robot frontman Alex Ebert, have been a
just-below-the-surface critical darling for two years – mostly on the strength of their single “Home,” slowly building momentum to the point where
they’re just ready to finally break through to stardom. Their steady rise has mirrored other prominent indie bands in the last few years – namely
Kings of Leon and Mumford & Sons, the latter of whom shares quite a bit of songwriting sensibility in common with the folk/rock power of Ebert and
company. Occupying a middle ground somewhere between the blues-folk of Janis Joplin and the soaring theatrical pop of fellow Summerfest performer The
Flaming Lips, the nine-piece band boasts a renowned live show that alternates between extraordinarily energizing and innately moving.
