Ima Robot - Alive EP
Author: Mike McClelland
"The latest from LA's upstart poppers Ima Robot features a second single from their self-titled debut album along with three previously
unreleased tracks. Of course of interest is the ability to experience listening bliss while cuing up "Alive" one more time, but the true
cool of this EP are the three songs that follow.
Investment nuts would call it 'diversifying your assets.' Ima would call it dance music. "Sine Your Life Away" is by no means all
the way to techno, but funked out bass lines are tempered down while lead guitars play with atmospheric touches instead of hooks and heavy pandering.
Next up, "STD Dance" is warming to electronica. 80s-breed disco effects tramp all over the intro before Ima use their pop rock craftiness to
pull out a trademark refrain. The pace continues to slow on "Ages Of Ruin," which plays between lullaby tenderness and glam-rock supremacy.
Whatever genre you pigeonholed Ima into, check to make sure they're still where you left them. The Alive EP has bits and pieces of everything you
knew and a few things you didn't. Where the band goes from here... now, that should be fun."
