Onetel.net Album Review

From onetel.net:

IMA ROBOT - IMA ROBOT

Consisting of two members from Beck's sublime touring band and one of the most dramatic mullets in pop history, LA's Ima Robot seemingly have a big part to play in the fabled second coming of New Wave.

If you're still missing Talking Heads or never quite got over The Pixies' decision to split then Ima Robot are here to bring a little nervous rock 'n' roll energy back to the scene. In fact the opener Dynomite with its cheeky, portamenting vocals and spiky guitar loops sounds like the precise fusion of Supergrass, Frank Black and The Psychedelic Furs. Next comes the swirling Song #1, armed with a rhythm track that's as tight fitting as Jordan's latest silicone implants, and a vocal surely derived from Devo. despite the pre-release hype there's surprisingly few synth parts over the record (aside from bonus track Black Jettas), instead the quintet have aimed at that warm new-wavish disco vibe late '70s acts like Blondies made their own and it works a treat.

It's an impressive debut from a band who are hard to pin down, but obviously have fine music taste.

Release Date: 19.04.2004
Label: VIRGIN
Genre: Rock
